“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me,” Jesus says in this Sunday’s Gospel Reading. We may infer, then, that whoever abuses a child rejects Christ.
The recent news has scandalized everyone, but especially the immediate victims. “Scandal is an act, omission of an act, attitude, or behaviour that leads someone else to do evil,” says the Catechism of the Catholic Church. “Scandal” comes from the Latin scandalum, which means “stumbling block.”
