My soft cover book: They Promised Heaven But Led Me To Hell

My crime, in the eyes of the catholic church nuns, was that I was born ‘a bastard and a daughter of the devil. The punishments for my sins started when I was 18months old in the nursery by three ladies workers for the nuns which were repeated most nights up to the age of 5years old. My childhood was a life of abuse by nuns, the workers, older girls and a priest, the only way I could get through this was to be by myself or run away and hide, go and stay in the church and also climb as high as I could in the trees or jump the fences and hide in long grass. I also went to the police but that did me no good I was thrashed by the nuns when the police took me back to the orphanage.

Catholic sex abuse survivor says he was molested, raped by priest at Md. church

Cardinal Donald Wuerl moved up a scheduled meeting by a week to meet with the Priest Council, reportedly to discuss the scathing grand jury report out of Pennsylvania that names the Archbishop of Washington more than 200 times. The meeting location, agenda and those in attendance were not made public. Wuerl is accused of covering up abuse while a bishop in Pittsburgh for 18 years. In a statement he released last week, Wuerl said he is committed to protecting children.

Portland archbishop: Sex abuse by priests an 'institutional and spiritual' failure

The leader of the Archdiocese of Portland on Monday said he was shocked and discouraged over recent revelations of child sex abuse by priests and the subsequent cover-ups by church leaders. In his first public comments since a Pennsylvania grand jury report detailed decades of abuse at the hands of 300 Roman Catholic priests in that state, Archbishop Alexander K. Sample apologized for harm done to the victims of abuse and called the latest allegations evidence of an "institutional and spiritual" failure.

Catholics in the pews, unleash your anger

Bishop John McCarthy of Austin will be laid to rest Friday. A larger-than-life, gregarious Irishman, McCarthy led the Catholic Diocese of Austin from 1986 until 2001, and was a priest for more than 60 years. He was powerfully committed to civil rights (not always popular in the Texas in which he grew up), questioned the church's tradition of priestly celibacy, and advocated for a more inclusive and powerful role for women. The diocese thrived under his leadership. Enrollment in Catholic schools, membership in the church, baptisms, and conversions more than doubled, the diocese said.

More Than 400 Have Called Pennsylvania's Hotline Since Clergy Sex Abuse Report

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was wrapping up his livestreamed address in Harrisburg last week, on the release of a bombshell grand jury report cataloging how the Catholic Church covered up the abuse of more than 1,000 minors by some 300 priests over 70 years, when he made an appeal: We want more survivors to report. "If you are listening to this news conference, and you know of sexual abuse being committed by a priest or a member of clergy against yourself, or anyone else, please call us," Shapiro implored viewers.

Abuse allegations have been leveled at the Catholic Church for decades

Church silence slammed by abuse survivors

The refusal of the Catholic Church in New Zealand to reveal its secrets has been blasted by a survivors’ group, amid calls for a "full and frank" disclosure of paedophile priests under its watch. On Saturday, an ODT Insight investigation, as part of its ongoing "Marked by the Cross" series, detailed fresh allegations against two Christian Brothers in Dunedin, dating back to the early 1970s. One of the men, Br Desmond Fay, was accused by a mother of driving her son to suicide, after abusing the boy while the principal of Christian Brothers Junior School.

I Stood Up in Mass and Confronted My Priest. You Should, Too.

Catholics should not keep on filling the pews every Sunday. It is wrong to support the church. Last Sunday, I did something that no properly raised Catholic ever does. I stood up in the middle of Mass and called out the priest. As the priest began his homily, I drew my 9-year-old son closer and asked him to pay close attention. Days before, a Pennsylvania grand jury had released a damning report detailing decades of horrific child sex abuse by clergymen and a church culture that covered it up.

Archdiocese of Oklahoma investigates allegation of abuse by priest in 1980s

The Archdiocese of Oklahoma received a letter from a former Oklahoma resident claiming that he had been abused by a priest in the archdiocese in the 1980s, officials said in a news release. Lawyer for Clergy Abuse Victims Calls for Grand Jury Reviews

An attorney for victims of clergy sex abuse wants Gov. Mark Dayton to convene grand juries to investigate alleged cover-ups by Catholic bishops in Minnesota. Attorney Jeff Anderson said Wednesday he was inspired by a grand jury investigation in Pennsylvania that showed about 300 priests in the state had molested more than 1,000 children. The Star Tribune reports that Anderson said the Dioceses of Crookston, St. Cloud and Duluth have not released their files on abusive priests and that they are "holding onto their secrets." All three dioceses have filed for bankruptcy or announced plans to do so.

Catholic League pushes back on ‘predator priest’ scandal

The Catholic League issued a prickly written rebuttal to this week’s Pennsylvania grand jury report revealing rampant child sex abuse by priests — insisting that news of an ongoing pedophilia problem in the church is “a total myth” and that “no one was found guilty of anything.” “There is no on-going crisis — it’s a total myth,” Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic anti-defamation organization, said in a claim that was quickly met with scorn and disgust.

We Can Take On the Catholic Church for Covering Up Child Sex Abuse. Here’s How

The Pennsylvania grand jury report on clergy sex abuse in six dioceses is a call to action, in part because so few indictments flowed from its documentation of over 1,000 victims and 300 perpetrator priests. It details enormous injustice and institutional malfeasance, but we are left with only two indictments of perpetrators. The institution and the bishops once again have been permitted to skate free, as though this is not a criminal enterprise in the most classic sense. It’s time to bring the Catholic Church to account for what it’s done.

“This Church Is a Criminal Enterprise”: Former Priest & Survivor Speak Out on PA Catholic Sex Abuse

A shocking new Pennsylvania grand jury report has revealed that more than 300 Catholic priests sexually abused 1,000 children, and possibly thousands more, over a span of seven decades. The church leadership covered up the abuse, lying to communities, transferring predator priests rather than firing them, and locking abuse complaints away in what the church called a “secret archive.” For more, we speak with Shaun Dougherty, a survivor of sexual abuse by a Pennsylvania priest. His story was included in Tuesday’s grand jury report.

Sex scandals fester at unhealthy organizations, experts say

Of all the horrific details contained in the Pennsylvania grand jury report on child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, one sentence stands out: "The main thing was not to help children, but to avoid 'scandal.'" When sex-abuse cases dominate headlines, a familiar pattern often emerges. If it took place at a large organization — be it a church, a large state university or a group such as USA Gymnastics — misconduct is often covered up in hopes of saving the institution's reputation, and the money that accompanies it.

Lawsuit claims Springfield Catholic diocese knew a top official was sexually abusing woman

More than 1,000 children — and possible many more — were molested by hundreds of Roman Catholic priests in six Pennsylvania dioceses, while senior church officials took steps to cover it up, according to a landmark grand jury report released Tuesday Time. Key Pennsylvania grand jury recommendation faces opposition from Catholic church

As Pennsylvania’s 40th investigative grand jury concluded its two-year dive into horrifying accounts of Catholic priests raping and molesting more than 1,000 children, it left the Legislature with some homework. “We spent 24 months dredging up the most depraved behavior, only to find that the laws protect most of its perpetrators, and leave its victims with nothing,” the grand jury wrote. “What makes it worthwhile is knowing we can do some kind of justice.”

Some priests accused of child sexual abuse were sent to psychiatric clinics for treatment

Though Pennsylvania enacted the first U.S. law 55 years ago that required mandatory reporting of child abuse to law enforcement, its Catholic dioceses didn't take it to heart. At least three states – Nebraska, Tennessee and Utah – required all people to report evidence of child abuse, according to a September 2014 Villanova Law Review article.

Angela Mary Griffin: The unforgivable sin

The only sin which is not forgiven by god is... the sin which the catholic church bestowed upon us victims / survivors... because of the abuse and raped our bodies and Souls... the catholic church has turned us away from god and his church... “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! … 10 “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” We have lost our FAITH... and it is this which the catholic church nuns and priest can not run away or hide from when their time comes to face god... The abuse of immoral clergy reached back into my own childhood when I learned that peers with whom I’d attended Catholic high school in London, Ontario, during the 1980s, had been sexually abused as altar servers by their parish priest in childhood. In 2006, a different London priest pleaded guilty to 47 counts of sexual assault over the same three decades. It was revealed in court that each time someone reported his abuse, the Diocese moved him to a different city, leaving him to act as a parish priest in places like Chatham and London where he continued to have access to children.

The list includes 37 priests, three deacons, six seminarians, nine clergy of other dioceses and 16 from other Catholic religious orders. It excludes cases the diocese found unsubstantiated and does not provide an estimated number of abuse victims.

We must ‘eradicate’ Church’s gay networks to fight sex abuse: moral theologian

The allegations of sexual misconduct made public in June against Archbishop Theodore McCarrick finally brought the decades-old open secret of the disgraced former cardinal’s sexually abusive behavior out in the open – also raising the question of the extent of the abuse, and how it was enabled and covered up by other U.S. prelates. At the same time the exposure of “Uncle Ted” and his impressive rise in the Church – all while he apparently targeted young boys, seminarians and priests - bared as well the phenomenon of gay networks within the clergy of the Catholic Church.
