Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde will seek an audience with Pope Francis just under a month after the pontiff refused to apologize for the Catholic Church’s role in residential schools.
“I am writing the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to seek a meeting and I am seeking an audience with Pope Francis directly as well,” Bellegarde said in a Thursday statement.
