The Rev. Bryan Dalton is a charmer. Visiting St. Ambrose Church in
Deerfield Beach, Fla., over the years, I have heard him croon at Mass,
ask parishioners marking a birthday that month to stand as he leads the
congregation singing, "Happy Birthday" and then presents each of them
with a rose. And he tells jokes.
Last month, he began his homily with, "I need your money." People laughed but he gets it. As the largest parish in the Miami Archdiocese, St. Ambrose has to raise $312,000 for the annual appeal. He reaches his goal every year. No wonder.
