DAVID HARDAKER: The Anglican Church's mishandling of child sex abuse
allegations in Australia has claimed another high profile resignation. After
mounting pressure following a critical report last week, the Archbishop
of Adelaide, Dr Ian George, has issued a statement this afternoon
announcing his resignation effective as of tonight.
An independent inquiry had looked at complaints of sexual abuse by Church officials in South Australia going back 50 years. That inquiry found that the Church's priority was often to protect itself, to the extent of threatening some alleged victims with legal action should their claims prove false.
