news conference in Mexico City. In a press conference on Friday, June 2,
2017, Athie said that Mexico City’s Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera
violated the law by not informing authorities outside the church about
at least 15 cases of abusive priests.
Former priest, Alberto Athie, alleges that
Cardinal Norberto Rivera, archbishop of Mexico City covered up at least
15 cases of priest sex abuse. Athie brought allegations of abuse in the
late 90s against Father Marcial Maciel Degollado, the founder of the
Legionaries of Christ who was eventually removed.
