A priest in southern Mexico has become the first member of the Catholic
Church in the country ever to be convicted of sexual abuse. The
Rev. Gerardo Silvestre Hernández, a priest in the Archdiocese of
Antequera Oaxaca, was sentenced to 16 years and six months in prison
last week for crimes committed against two minors between 2009 and 2010,
according to the Catholic News Service. The priest was also ordered to pay damages to the victims of around $4000
