An elderly Christian Brother who spent decades teaching in Victorian
Catholic schools has been charged with 39 offences, including child sex
abuse. Robert Charles Best, 75, now living in Ararat in western Vctoria,
is alleged to have committed acts of indecent assault over a 20-year
period, according to charge sheets filed with the Melbourne Magistrates'
Court on 2 September 2016.
Police allege that Best committed 17 counts of indecent assault, one count of assault and one count of unlawful imprisonment between 1968 and 1973 in Ballarat.
