Alain Christnacht, 70, a top bureaucrat, will chair France’s
Independent National Expert Commission on Child Abuse, whose creation
was announced on April 12 by French Bishops’ Conference (CEF) as part
of the fight against child abuse within the Catholic Church.
The new body will offer prelates advice in the valuation of cases of priests under investigation or sentenced for child abuse and will help identify the tasks that can eventually be assigned to such priests without putting minors at risk.
