Procedural unfairness should never trump children's suffering

Any journalist who's been in the job for a while will have experienced a Grievance Labyrinth Letter. I dread them so much. They plop out of the mailbox, corpulent with injustice. Some of them run to 30 pages. They are often copied to a bewildering array of recipients; the Prime Minister, the local mayor, David Gonski, the Pope.
